Mrs. K. C. Barphungpa

Mrs. Kesang Chukie Barphungpa graduated in B.A. (Hons.) In English from Loreto College,Darjeeling and further studied LLB from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University. She joined the Sikkim Judicial Service in the year 1995 as a Civil Judge-cum­-Judicial Magistrate. In the year 2004 she was promoted to the post of Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Civil Judge. She was again promoted to the post of District & Sessions Judge In the cadre to the Sikkim Superior Judicial Services in the year 2008. During her career as a Judicial Officer from 1995 till date, she has had the opportunity of working in almost every department of the justice delivery system.

She held the posts of the Registrar, High Court of Sikkim; Registrar General, High Court of Sikkim; Member secretary, Sikkim State Legal Services Authority; Director, Sikkim Judicial Academy; and Legal Remembrancer-cum-Secretary, Law Department, Government of Sikkim. Other than presiding over civil and criminal cases, she has presided as a Special Judge in SpecialCourts for cases Involving the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,2012; Fast Track Court (for cases involving rape and sexual offences); The Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste (Prevention of Atrocities) Act,1989; Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988; Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal;CommercialCourt;and the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. She also presided as Judge of the Family Court.

Presently, she is posted as the District & Sessions Judge, Gyalshing, Sikkim. She is also the Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority (Gyalshing) and is actively involved in ensuring that persons who fall within marginalized sections (such as women, children, specially-abled, under-trial prisoners, senior citizens, economically and socially disadvantaged) are ensured they get legal aid and support wherever required.
