History

Gyalshing is a district of the Indian state of Sikkim also called Geyzing which lies just west of Rangit River on the Rathong-Kalet interfluve and is approximately 112 kms away from the State capital at Gangtok. The District Headquarters of West District are further divided into two Districts namely Gyalshing and Soreng. West Sikkim is 1166 square kilometers in size, its population is 136299 and its density of population 84 per square kilometer The popular tourist attractions are Pelling, Sanga Choling Monastery, Yuksam, Pemayangtse Monastry, Rabdentse Ruins and Khechoperi lake. The foundation stone of the Court Building at Rabdentse (Gyalshing) was laid down by Hon’ble Mr. S.N Bhargava, the then Chief Justice of Sikkim on 27.07.1995. The Court Building at Rabdentse (Gyalshing) was inaugurated on 03.05.1997 by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Malay Sengupta, the then Acting Chief Justice of Sikkim.

The Lok Adalat at West District, Gyalshing was inaugurated by Hon’ble Shri Justice Anup Deb, the then Acting Chief Justice, High Court of Sikkim in the presence of Guest of Honour, Shri S.P Wangdi, Addl. Advocate General, Ex-Officio. Executive Member S.L.S.A on the 10.11.1998.

The Mediation Centre at West Sikkim at Gyalshing was inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice Dr. Aftab H. Saikia, the then Chief Justice, High Court of Sikkim & Patron–in-Chief, S.S.L.S.A in the presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice A.P Subba, Judge, High Court of Sikkim Executive Chairman, S.S.L.S.A and Hon’ble Mr. Justice S.P Wangdi, Judge, High Court of Sikkim on 20.02.2010.

The Sessions Division of West District of Sikkim consists of one Court of the Sessions Judge West at Gyalshing, one Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate West at Gyalshing, and one Court of Judicial Magistrate (West) at Gyalshing. The District Judicial Division of West District of Sikkim consist of one Court of District Judge West at Gyalshing, one Court of Civil Judge Sr. Division, West at Gyalshing, and one Court of Civil Judge, West at Gyalshing.

The Court of the District Sessions Judge, West was established on 15.04.2014 at the temporary complex at Tikjuck Rabdentse, Gyalshing, West Sikkim. Later, the new permanent Court Complex was build and inaugurated on 11.06.2016 at Kyongsa, Gyalshing, West Sikkim.
